Phishing/fake mail

Criminals are sending phishing emails more and more often. These are fake emails that look as if they come from a trustworthy organisation. With these emails, they try to steal your personal information or make you pay money.

Phishing / fake emails about municipal and water board taxes

Fake emails regularly circulate that appear to come from the government. These may look like false reminders or warnings about municipal or water authority taxes.
These emails often say that you must pay immediately via a link, QR code, or to a foreign bank account.

The RBG never does this. We always ask you to go to the secure environment Mijn RBG yourself. There, you can log in using DigiD, eHerkenning or eIDAS.

How can you recognise a fake email?

  • You are unexpectedly asked to make a payment.
  • The email contains a link or QR code to a payment page.
  • The bank account number is foreign.
  • The language or tone of the email seems strange or incorrect.
  • You do not have any tax bill to pay.

What should you do if you are unsure?

If you are unsure whether the email really comes from the Regional Tax Group (De Regionale Belasting Groep):
